1. VIDEO: Molly Wright's TEDtalk, How every child can thrive by five
"I know it’s important for adults to use their devices sometimes, but kids are hardwired to seek out meaningful connections, and not receiving them causes confusion and stress," says 7-year-old Molly Wright in her awesome and important 7-minute TEDtalk on how every parent can help their child thrive.
"Now what if our whole childhood was like that last 30 seconds?" Molly asks, following a clip of a father ignoring his frantic baby while looking at his cell phone. "How hard it would be for a child to feel calm? To feel safe? To learn to trust anyone? And the lifelong impact that would have. So please, try to remember the most special period for our development is the first five years. Starting from inside mommy’s tummy. What’s something really impactful you can do? Serve and return. And when? Early and often. Every moment together is an opportunity to connect, talk and play. Imagine the difference we could make if everyone everywhere did this. To us, the children, it’s so much more than just a game. It's our future."
2. PODCAST: Feel Better, Live More with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee
Oooheee, I love a good podcast!!
A couple of nights a week after my daughter has gone to bed, I deal with the all of the built-up, can't-go-in-the-dishwasher kitchen mess – and listen to a podcast to make it more fun and educational, yay!
I just discovered Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, who has interviewed some of my favourite thinkers including Kelly McGonigal, Kristen Neff, Gabor Maté and Esther Perel! Definitely adding this one to my regular rotation.
3. BOOK: When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress by Gabor Maté
Speaking of Gabor Maté, his book, When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress, is a total must-read!
I am a firm believer that mental stress affects our physical body. My husband and I both have very personal and transformational experiences from realizing this link. If you've worked with me in any way through The Life Delicious, you've likely heard our stories – which we both came to via different avenues. This book is solidifying everything we know about this critical mind-body connection and helping us take our awareness and actions to the next level.
About the book from Maté's website: "Can a person literally die of loneliness? Is there a connection between the ability to express emotions and Alzheimer’s disease? Is there such a thing as a 'cancer personality'? Drawing on scientific research and the author’s decades of experience as a practicing physician, When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress provides answers to these and other important questions about the effect of the mind-body link on illness and health and the role that stress and one’s individual emotional makeup play in an array of common diseases."
What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the above resources!
Wishing you TONS of delicious juicy pleasure!
Best,
Catherine
